Red Grouse

For this Wednesdays birding outing with Paul, we decided on a trip north to Speyside where we hoped to catch up with some of the specialities from that area - Crested Tits in particular, but also hopefully Golden Eagle as well as White Tailed Eagle, Hen Harrier and maybe a Scottish Crossbill or two. With time running out a little for Paul to reach his target of 200 species in a year (he's only onshore for about half of that) we needed to try to maximise our time. We started early and headed up through Glenshee then into Aberdeenshire then over the tops into Moray. We started birding the area at Dava Moor and Lochindorb before heading up the A9 to Strathdearn for raptors then down to Loch Garten for Cresties. Unfortunately luck wasn't on our side and it was a lot of miles and effort for zero return for either of us with regards year-ticks. An enjoyable enough day however.
