Well, despite my best intentions I have fallen a bit behind with my blog posts lately. Mostly this is down to being rather preoccupied with the Scottish Independence Referendum. I have a large backlog of photos to edit as well as playing catch-up with this blog, so to my regular readers this post is both a wee teaser of what is to come and an apology of sorts for having fallen behind.

Most of September and an epic visit to Riverside Nature Park have still to be covered. In that time though, I've managed to see some good birds and some very good birds including a lifer and a few other year-ticks.

A quick summary of sorts of what is still to come -

31st August - Riverside Nature Park (epic day). Highlights include Fulmar and Kingfisher (patch ticks for me though neither new for park) plus Greenshank, Jay, Magpie, Spotted Redshank, Swift, Tree Pipit.

1st September  -Angus coast by bus and foot. Highlights include - Canada Goose, Grey Plover, Little Gull, Tree Pipit, White Wagtail, Yellow Wagtail (only my 2nd ever and a tear tick). Managed to see 4 wagtail and 3 pipit species.

2nd September - Carnoustie Area. Highlights include - Canada Goose, Curlew Sandpiper (year tick), Grey Wagtail, Little Gull, Ruff.

6th September - Arbroath. Highlights include - Common Sandpiper, Golden Plover, Little Gull, Magpie, Mediterranean Gull, Peregrine, Roseate Tern (lifer and year-tick), Sparrowhawk. 4 species of Tern and 8 species of gull seen.

7th September - Tentsmuir/Guardbridge and Fife Ness. Highlights include - Arctic Skua, Canada Goose, Common Sandpiper, Common Scoter, Curlew Sandpiper, Golden Plover, Grey Plover, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Osprey, Peregrine, Red Throated Diver, Wigeon.

13th September - St Andrews/ Fife Ness area/ Guardbridge. Highlights include - Canada Goose, Curlew Sandpiper, Golden Plover, Greenshank, Grey Partridge, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Magpie, Pintail, Red Throated Diver, Ruff, Stonechat.

14th September - St Andrews and Guardbridge. Highlights include - Bar Tailed Godwit, Canada Goose, Common Scoter, Curlew Sandpiper, Greenshank, House Martin, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Osprey, Peregrine, Red Throated Diver, Stock Dove, Wigeon.

17th September - St Andrews and Crail Area. Highlights include - Blackcap, Golden Plover, House Martin, Magpie, Sparrowhawk, Spotted Flycatcher, Stonechat, Yellow Browed Warbler (year tick).

20th September - Guardbridge/ Fife Ness area. Highlights include - Blackcap, Common Scoter, Fieldfare, Golden Plover, Greenshank, House Martin, Kingfisher, Little Egret, Magpie, Peregrine, Pink Footed Goose, Purple Sandpiper, Red Breasted Flycatcher (year tick), Spotted Flycatcher, Stock Dove.

21st September - Riverside Nature Park and Angus coast. Highlights include - Canada goose, Chiffchaff, Jay, Knot, Magpie, Stock Dove, Wigeon, Bar Tailed Godwit, Common Sandpiper, Common Tern, Corn Bunting, Golden Plover, Tree Sparrow, Wigeon.

So, as you can see there is quite a backlog to get through. Hopefully I will get at least one blog post done each night, though this is dependent on circumstances and distractions. I really need to get caught up before my holiday birding week next month. Fingers crossed and watch this space......
