Following on from the previous day's rather successful visit to Riverside Nature Park, I was keen to get out birding once again the following day, Sunday the 2nd of March. I decided that Broughty Ferry offered me the best chance of adding anything new. However it was rather windy - which is not particularly helpful 99% of the time, and on top of that, I was rather lacking in energy. I decided to go for it regardless. I got organised and was ready to go for around 0945.
Magpie and Herring Gull were noted in my street with Goldfinch, Starling, Feral Pigeon, House Sparrow and Goldcrest all noted as I headed up Court Street towards Clepington Road. Woodpigeon and Carrion Crow were seen as I reached the 'Cleppie'. Despite having only been outside for a matter of minutes, I was already feeling like my heart just wasn't in it. I pressed on anyway. At Swannie Ponds Coot, Mallard, Mute Swan, Tufted Duck and Black Headed Gull were all noted. Eastern Cemetery produced a few more species - Blue Tit, Wren, Robin, Chaffinch and Great Tit. A Lesser Black Backed Gull overflew. I crossed Arbroath Road to the top of Balgavies Avenue. Knowing that I still had at least, 8 or 9 miles of walking ahead of me, half of which would be into the wind and feeling quite drained, I decided to turn back for home rather than forcing myself to push onwards to the Ferry, after all.
Greenfinch, Blackbird and Dunnock were seen as I walked back along towards Baxter Park. At the park, I decided I might as well take a look at Spring Grove. When I got there, things were very quiet but eventually began to pick up a little. There were a few Long tailed Tits around and a couple of Bullfinches, but otherwise it was a very typical mix of Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Great Tits, Chaffinches, Blackbirds and Blue Tits that provided the main photo opportunities. I spent a while there hoping things would improve further but they didn't so I continued home, via a return visit to Swannie Ponds which also offered very little. I made it home around 2.5 hours after heading out having managed to see or hear just 24 species. I did manage to get some nice photos of a Sparrowhawk vs Carrion Crow tussle from home later in the afternoon which I've added the photos of below.
